People often ask me, "why do you talk about Roman history so much?"  The answer is simple, a passionate Roman History teacher from High School unlocked something in me which I am sure will never die.  Since then I have lived in the East for over 10 years and on my return from there, I have taken up MY passion for Roman history as if it was just yesterday.  My children have Roman names and I wish to be buried in the Roman way.  I don't know why my heart is following Roma but it feels right and it is the path I tread with open arms.

Maybe it is because you like all the shiny ephemera that surrounds Roman life and history.  I seem to recall that you have a small Roman Eagle prominently displayed in your home and on occasion, used for prayer purposes...

Indeed!

That posting came out after a few quiet wines...does wine reveal the true self?

Only if it is mead....

I have another possible explanation for your fascination with the Roman narrative.  It is not just the shiny uniforms, standards and other baubles but it is what they represent; discipline and a steely sense of order.  Don't discount it too readily - recent history is awash with efforts to rebirth the former with an eye to the latter...

Salve Barbarian,

It is definitely the sense of order, routine, law and power that indeed interests me.  The fact that ancient Roman life still contributes to the way we live our life today and that it closely paralleled in some part the way people still today go about their lives...the arena...shopping, holidays, elections, libraries, schools, shopkeepers, etc.
I believe there is a major attraction to be staged at the MCG arena sometime this month?
