I was watching "Long Way Down" the other day (2 guys on bikes riding from Scotland to Cape Town). There trek takes them through Tunisia and Libya where there are some awesome Roman ruins.

Here is a google maps link to the location that includes a few photos of what is still there - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&g=sabratha+libya&ie=UTF8&t=h&layer=x&ll=32.805668,12.484653&spn=0.002191,0.003192&z=18

Apparently these ruins are in a better state than those in Rome because of the lower polutions levels.

Enjoy,
Janus.

I was going to start a thread for my own (obvious) choice of Alexandria, which Imperator reminded me of with his post about Cleopatra and Mark Antony's tomb, but I'll be happy to agree that any of the Roman sites in North Africa are awesome.

Especially Alexandria.  Wink
